Having a baby can be a very emotional time for a new mother as her hormones go through all their phases (ups and downs) after birth. Most mothers feel sleep deprived from their labor, they are learning lots of new skills with changing diapers and breastfeeding around the clock, dealing with company and family visits, and getting used to their 'new' physical body changes. All of this can be quite overwhelming and placenta encapsulation is an easy, safe, and completely natural way to restore some of what has been lost during pregnancy and birth. Powdered placenta has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries.
When taken in the postpartum period, placenta capsules have been shown to:
- balance hormones
- increase energy
- enhance milk supply
- decrease postpartum bleeding
- decrease fatigue
- help with 'baby blues' in the post partum phase
- assist the uterus with returning to it's pre-pregnancy state
- replenish depleted iron

Care of Placenta
After birth, store the placenta in a clean airtight container and refrigerate as soon as possible. If you are unable to refrigerate within the first few hours, use a cooler with ice until you get home. If it will not be possible to start the encapsulation process within the first 72 hours after giving birth, you should plan to freeze the placenta immediately after your child is born. Double bag the placenta in 2 zip lock freezer bags (1-gallon sized). A placenta that is bagged and protected from freezer burn can be encapsulated up to six months after the birth.
